How to Get Ready for a Salon Waxing Appointment

Salon waxing is a fantastic way to cut back on shaving, get smooth skin and indulge a little. It’s nice to let someone else do all the work, but there are some things visitors should do before the day of their waxing appointment. Making sure to follow these tips will help ensure that the appointment goes smoothly.

1. Grow Out the Hair

In order for wax to grab hair and pull it out by its roots, there has to be some visible hair. The general rule is to let the hair grow for two to three weeks. An eighth to a quarter of an inch of hair is perfect for the wax to grab. Any longer and there is a risk of the waxing being more painful than necessary.

2. Avoid Creams With Retin-A

While retin-A is wonderful for acne and other skin conditions, it makes the skin more prone to damage. Do not use any creams containing retin-A for about two weeks before a body waxing appointment to avoid injury.

3. Exfoliate

Whether the appointment is for facial waxing, Brazilian waxing or everything in-between, gently exfoliate the skin the day before an appointment. Gentle is the operative word; heavily exfoliated skin is sensitive.

4. Moisturize

Use moisturizer on the areas to be waxed all the way up to the day before a waxing appointment. This helps the skin pull away from the wax easily. However, overdoing it or waxing on the day of the appointment can make it harder for the wax to adhere to the hair.

5. Look for Skin Problems

Just before a waxing appointment, check the skin for signs of breakage or sensitivity. It is not safe to wax skin that is broken or irritated. Not only can it lead to further damage, it can also promote infections. Wait until the skin heals to wax.

6. Cleanliness

Make sure to keep the bikini area very clean before and after waxing. This is true for facial waxing too, but especially true for Brazilian waxing, which affects a moist area that is susceptible to chafing. Moist, damaged skin is much more prone to bacterial growth.

Tips To Prepare Your Skin For Waxing

Body waxing is a popular way to remove unwanted hair. Many people are nervous about getting Brazilian waxing. However, there are many things that you can do in order to prepare and make this a better experience. Below is a list of things that you can do in order to prepare for facial waxing:

Let Your Hair Grow Out

Facial waxing cannot be performed on hair that is too short. If you have recently shaved, then you will need to wait one or two weeks before you get waxed. The hair needs to be at least 1/4 of an inch. However, you do not want to wait too long. Letting the hair grow too long will cause waxing to be more painful.

Check Your Skin

It is important to thoroughly check your skin before you get Brazilian waxing. If you have inflammation or broken skin, then you will need to allow it to heal before you get waxed. You should also tell your esthetician about any moles that you have. Your esthetician will take special care in order to avoid hurting those moles.

Exfoliate

You should exfoliate your skin the day before you get your skin waxed. This will help loosen up dirt and dead skin cells. It can also help lift trapped hairs.

Stop Using Retinoids

Retinoids are skin medications that can be used to treat various skin conditions, such as acne and wrinkles. These medications can make your skin more sensitive to pain. That is why you should stop using them two weeks before you get waxed.

Moisturize Your Skin

You should moisturize your skin before you get waxed. It is easier to remove hair from well-moisturized skin. However, you do not want to use too much moisturizer. Excess moisturizer can make waxing more difficult.

Take A Pain Reliever

Everybody tolerates pain differently. While waxing is not that painful for some people, it can be extremely painful for others. If you are sensitive to pain, then you may want to take a pain reliever 30 minutes before you get waxed. The pain reliever will kick in right before you get waxed and alleviate discomfort.

When Is the Worse Time to Get Facial or Body Waxing Done

When not to Wax

There are many questions and fears about facial and body waxing. Many people are afraid they will be “burned” by the wax, or that their skin is too sensitive to be waxed. Bad experiences are unfortunately all too common. Here at The Green Room we make sure to avoid all such occurrences. Here are a few things to know before you head to your local brow bar.

  1. What medications are you currently using from a Dermatologist? This is important because medications such a Retin-A, Retinol, Benzoyl Peroxide, and Alpha Hydroxy Acids thin the skin and can cause irritation when waxing.
  2. Have you had any medical grade services from a Dermatologist or MedSpa in the past month? Chemical peels, Phenol peels, and Microdermabrasion are all procedures that cause the superficial layer of the skin to be effected, making skin more prone to irritation.
  3. Have you been sunburned or is your skin uncharacteristically dry? Dry skin is more prone to “lifting” when wax is applied.

Here at The Green Room we ask each waxing client to read and sign a release form asking the above questions each and every time they visit our Cary, NC salon. All too often I hear clients say they were “burned” by wax being too hot, or that they have never been asked what products they use on their skin before a wax service. They have more than likely experienced “lifting” or a negative reaction to waxing in the past due to products or services they currently use, or to changes in their skin’s moisture level, caused by weather, sun exposure, or internal dehydration. Being “burned” by wax is next to impossible, and we make sure to educate all of our waxing clients prior to their service.

What to do if you are currently using a Dermatologist grade product, its simple, we will tweeze your brow rather than wax. Tweezing is just as effective and will give the same clean, defined result as a brow wax. Just allot a little more time with tweezing.

Cary Body Waxing Salon, The Green Room, Shares 9 Brazilian Wax Tips

Brazilian wax services can be a little bit intimidating to those who’ve never given this fabulous service a try before. The truth is that the fear and anticipation leading up to a wax is oftentimes scarier than the service itself. To help you have the best Brazilian wax experience possible, here are nine Brazilian wax tips from our Cary body waxing salon.

1. Don’t Panic or Stress

The more your freak out and stress, the worse the experience is going to be. While getting a Brazilian at a body waxing bar does entail some pain, it’s usually not as bad as people think it’s going to be.

2. Don’t Shave or Apply Any Products

Don’t shave for at least a week before your appointment, as hair needs to be at least a quarter of an inch long. Avoid applying any products to the area before your appointment as well.

3. Let Your Waxer Know If You’re A Newbie

Any body waxing bar professional wants to know if it’s your first time. They’ll go a little slower and walk you through the process.

4. Don’t Be Self-Conscious

The professionals who administer Brazilian wax services have seen it all. Don’t be self-conscious about what you look like.

5. Take An Ibuprofen

While nothing will make the process completely painless, an Ibuprofen can help to reduce the pain a bit and prevent redness.

6. Relax and Breathe

The more tense you are, the more unpleasant the experience will be. Instead, just relax and remember to breathe.

7. Let Your Waxer Know If You Don’t Want To Be Fully Bare

If the idea of going fully bare freaks you out, tell your waxer at the beginning of your appointment. She or he will be happy to leave a small patch of hair, frequently known as a “landing strip.”

8. Don’t Be Freaked Out By The Tweezers

If your waxer pulls out some metal tools, don’t be freaked out! They’re just doing away with some ingrown hairs or bumps, which absolutely everyone has down there. The finished, smooth result will be worth it.

9. Enjoy The Results!

Shaving downstairs is a real hassle. A Brazilian gives you a gorgeously smooth finish for up to a full month. You’ll feel cleaner, smoother and more fabulous.

If you’re ready to finally try a Brazilian for yourself, call our Cary body waxing salon today to schedule an appointment.
